When the IPL invited bids for the new teams, hope floated high for UPites to see a UP IPL team, in fact Kanpur’s name surfaced as one of the promising contenders. A London-based party was reportedly interested in the biggest industrial city in Uttar Pradesh. Even a chewing tobacco manufacturer was said to be keen. Things somehow didn’t fructify for both of them. Kerala and Pune came out as victors. Now all south Indian states have their own IPL teams. UP with so many of its players currently playing for various IPL teams will have to live with the disappointment of not having a domestic team to cheer. Some of the UP players who are the part of IPL are UP's Ranji captain Mohd. Kaif who plays for Rajasthan Royals, Suresh Raina turns out for Chennai Super Kings, Piyush Chawla and Tanmay Srivastva are seen in Kings XI Punjab, while Praveen Kumar and R P Singh represent Bangalore Royal Challengers and Hyderabad Deccan Chargers respectively. Bhuwaneshwar Kumar and Sudeep Tyagi are donning the Bangalore and Chennai caps respectively. In order to meet out the cricketing aspirations of the 5 lakh UPTUians, we at UPTU WATCH have conceived of a UPL- Uttar Pradesh Premier League. Just like the 10 national teams we wish to have 10 teams from various parts of the state representing one or the other cities/regions. We brainstormed over lots of cups of tea and came up with a few names which would do justice to the glory and legacy of Uttar Pradesh and its historical cities & regions. Some of the ideas which came to our mind are illustrated above. We intend to tap the vast potential of our readers. How about suggesting us some mindblowing names with a small write-up justifying the relevance of the same? Names that will strike a chord with a people of that city/region. A name that will define the legacy of the people. We invite you to unleash your imagination and let us know what you think about the aforementioned names as well.
